Bonelli’s

The most junior member of the local clan was baptised yesterday and relations flooded in to cram neighbouring houses and utilise the salle de fetes. I have discovered that the dried-out water trap in the U-bend of the washing machine allows ingress to the stench from the drains in the street when the building is in use. I forgot to top this up yesterday and the house was virtually uninhabitable when I returned to it late last night. The three benches in the street were occupied by clansfolk but all was locked down and quiet by midnight.
At least two kinds of eagles have been wheeling in the vicinity recently. One is the short-toed eagle and the other, I think, is Bonelli’s. I find raptors horribly hard to identify, usually because they’re high and far off which makes both colour and size difficult. The short-toed eagle had the grace to sit in a tree for a while – afar off, but it helped – and it seemed to have a white hood. The variation of plumage within such species is another complication.
